I don't quite know why I am so drawn to photographing birds. Maybe it's because they are the descendants of the dinosaurs. As a little boy, I was mesmerized by dinosaurs. If you look close, the resemblances are quite obvious. And, to be sure, birds are beautiful. Their details are so elusive, except when seen up close. Birds rarely let us approach them. But photography — an entirely benign imposition on the life of the bird — can capture those details. And make them shine. Like a hunter who displays the heads of animals on the wall, I get to show off these remarkable flying creatures without harming even a feather.
