The golden age of railroads is long gone. But there are still some who remember. Who dream. Who keep alive the romance. In Boonton, New Jersey are members of the United Railroad Historical Society who collect and repair the remnants of days gone by. This diesel engine -- an F7 formerly of the Chicago and North Western -- is beyond repair. Rust has taken its toll. Yet therein lies its beauty. And charm. How long will it evade the scrap heap? Who can know. But I took these pictures to capture and preserve the enchantment of steel and oxidation.
Special thanks to Jim Greller for allowing me access to this rail yard.
