Coney Island is the mother of all amusement parks. But it's far more than a bunch or hair-raising rides. It's more than a world-famous boardwalk. More than its beaches and it's hot dogs. Coney Island is a cultural phenomenon, a genuine New York experience. New Jersey has prettier boardwalks. California has more elaborate piers. Florida has much nicer beaches. But Coney Island has New Yorkers. Coney Island is as much "New York" as is the subway and the Empire State Building and the Statue of LIberty. All put together.
