Most of the time the word "portrait" conjures up a picture of a person, maybe a pet, who is (usually) posing for the artist to capture their image. More and more, however, I find myself drawn to inanimate objects which, in and of themselves, are worthy of portraiture. Sometimes they are objects, maybe even elements of larger bodies; sometimes they are buildings. In all cases they have become worthy of my (and hopefully your) gaze.
The pictures below are captures of things that I have imagined were "sitting" for me, maybe even hoping I would ask them if I could take their photographs. My only requirement is that they be in an urban environment and that they stand still. Most of these were taken in my neighborhood, Jersey City Heights.
